Finally, something new! This is a song about the moment when you realize that pretty much everyone who ever dumped you or rejected you did you the biggest possible favor, even if it took years to know it.

First time recording all the vocals and percussion with the Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 (pictured above), and also first time recording real guitars (a mini electric tuned to an open E tuning, and an acoustic guitar in standard tuning), also through the Scarlett (acoustic was miked). This thing records vocals so nice I didn’t even need reverb! (Update 8/30/15: I did wind up adding a TINY bit of reverb when I remixed it today.) (And yes, all the vocals are mine.)

Other instruments: MIDI bass, vintage-style tambourine, small frog rasp, frame drum, wood shaker. Hand claps and finger snaps are real ones this time, because SCARLETT, dude. Damn, I love this thing. Can you tell?

A lot more stuff coming, and it won’t take three months for the next one, pinky swear.

Frisbee

Music and Lyrics by Andee Joyce

Time was, I thought I had the game all figured out
All there was to it was jump higher, catch one in my mouth
One swirl of color after another whooshed overhead
And I never could understand a word anyone said
And I was so so so so so so hungry for it
I might as well have eaten nothing at all
Yeah I was so so so so so so hungry for it
All you had to do was smile and pat my head
And say “good girl,” and I’d fall

Chorus 1:
‘Cause those were the days when love was the Frisbee and I was the dog
Always thought I’d blown my last chance to catch one
‘Til the next one came floating along
I chased after them for years, always gave a lot more than I got
Good thing none of those Frisbees ever got caught

Wasn’t I cute, wasn’t I nice, maybe but not enough
Thought if I tried a little harder I could win me some love
Run farther, run faster, keep up the pace
But I never saw tenderness in anyone’s face
And I was so so so so so so hungry for it
Nothing could have filled me up all the way
Yeah I was so so so so so so hungry for it
I could never see all they’d ever want from me
Was just fetch and heel and stay

(repeat chorus 1)

Now it’s a new game, I’m not the same, I’m not the dog
And love’s not a trophy I have to nail down to prove I belong
For once in my life, now and then I can be a Frisbee
And a great person, not a dog, will be there to catch me

Here I come, put your hands together
Here I come, put your hands together
Here I come, put your hands together
And don’t let go ’til you’re ready to throw
(repeat last 4 lines once)

Catch me with your hands, catch me with your mouth
Catch me with your knees, you’ll figure it out
I’m flying in the breeze, just as high and far as I please
And when I’m in the air I let myself forget

Chorus 2:
All about those days when love was the Frisbee and I was the dog
Always thought I’d blown my last chance to catch one
‘Til the next one came floating along
And if any of them had let me catch them then
Right now I’d be dead
Thank God all of those Frisbees sailed over my head

Here I come, put your hands together
Here I come, put your hands together
Here I come, put your hands together
